Certified Scrum Developer with Chet Hendrickson and Henrik Kniberg, December 6-10, 2010

Please Note! This course has already taken place. Please contact us if you are interested in attending a similar course or if you want us to offer a customized private course.

This 5-day course combines a 2 day Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) course with 3 days of technical practices from eXtreme Programming (XP). As participant you will become both CSM and CSD. If you already are a CSM or CSPO you only need to attend the XP part of the course.

Background

Scrum’s incremental-iterative approach to software development requires Development Teams to find, learn, and implement solid technical practices.  In recognition of this, the Scrum Alliance has created the Certified Scrum Developer program.  This course is the first to meet the Scrum Alliance requirements for training in support of the CSD rating. Frankly, we intend this course to be a benchmark of how to do this.

Jeff Sutherland, co-creator of Scrum, has said that the only hyper-productive teams he has seen have been using XP-style technical practices. This is no surprise: the practices shown below are practically essential to working in the Scrum style:

Teacher

Ron Jeffries is author of Extreme Programming Installed and other agile books, and has been developing software longer than most people have been alive. As coach of the first XP (extreme programming) team, Ron pioneered TDD (test-driven development) and is widely considered to be the leading expert within this area.

Ron is co-founder of the Agile Alliance. His site www.XProgramming.com is one of the most popular XP sites containing over 200 articles related to XP and TDD.

What you will learn

In addition to learning the Scrum framework, participants will experience the basic technical practices required to sustain a Scrum Project:

  • Collaborative Software Development
  • Test-Driven Development
  • Acceptance Testing
  • Simple Design
  • Refactoring
  • Continuous Integration
  • Coding Standards/ Java Implementation Patterns

Using Java /Eclipse, thoughtfully crafted simulations, lecture, and discussion, we will build the strong technical foundation required to be a full member of a Scrum Development Team.

CSD qualification

To qualify as CSD, attend the whole week course and pass an assessment. If approved, you will be asked to pay a fee of $150, which will secure your active CSD status for two years.

If you already are a CSM or CSPO, you can attend just the XP part of the course (wed-fri).

For more info and FAQ see the Certified Scrum Developer info on the Scrum Alliance site.
