Alistair Cockburn

Dr Alistair Cockburn was one of the founders of the agile movement. He co-created the Agile Manifesto, and wrote the original book Agile Software Development.

Alistair was voted one of the “The All-Time Top 150 i-Technology Heroes” in 2007 for his pioneering work in understanding use cases and for co-creating the agile software development movement. He is an internationally renowned IT strategist, expert on agile development, use cases, process design, project management, and object-oriented design, author of the Crystal agile methodologies, three Jolt-awarded books on software development, and the project management Declaration of Interdependence. He is known for his lively presentations and interactive workshops.

Here is Alistair’s description of the type of work he does best:

”My specialty is sewing together different departments in a company. That usually comes from doing some other work for them, but either requirements, project planning, or even a process review (aka reflection workshop) can be good. Can be good to visit some project plans, talk about them w the PM or similar, and also with that person’s bosses.

It’s fun asking the execs what is eating at them, then showing them what they can do about it, or chasing that down to find out where the problem really is, and then showing everyone what they can do about it.

I also do a 3-day process/methodology assessment with good results. In that one I interview everyone possible for 2 days, spend 1/2 day rolling up the results, last 1/2 day discussing results with the leadership team.
