Testing is a creative activity. Testing is never a repetitive set of actions or verifications. Testing is always an exploration. Exploration for new discoveries of information, inconsistencies or defects.

This one day workshop is all about hunting for defects. Using exploratory testing approach with help of practices, tools and the power of information you, tester, can dramatically change your daily work. You can discover questions noone asked before and spot issues in your products or systems noone have seen before, beside your users.

It all starts with the mindset. Many people over the globe have been talking about more agile ways of working for testers. James Bach, James Whittaker, Cem Kaner, Jonathan Kohl, Michael Bolton, Elisabeth Hendrickson and many others put their focus on describing testing as a creative process. There is lots of theoretical material available on the internet about exploratory testing. Every author explains his/her own view on how to perform, manage and structure the testing activities. While there is no one single way to work in all situations, many ideas can be inspiring and used as a guidance.

In this course I tried to summarize widely accessible information together with my own knowledge and practical experience. During the whole day we will be sharpening your tester’s mind and practicing testing together using such practices as tours, heuristics, quick attacks, soap operas, etc. We will take a look how knowledge of technical architecture as well as business context can help you to test better. You will get to know how to look for test oracles when the answer is unclear. You will practice writing consistent and valuable test reports. You will test in pairs, do debriefs and much more.

At the end of this course you will be able to see that testing is a truly creative activity and should be considered as such. You will get the basics and tools you need to start practicing and developing yourself as a worldclass tester.

This workshop is intended for testers with a broad range of experience and technical skills. Developers and managers who are willing to understand how testers are and should be thinking about testing would benefit from this course as well.
