Doug Kirkpatrick – TEDx speaker, pioneer from The Morning Star Company, co-founder of the Self-Management Institute, and more  – recently finished writing the book The No-Limits Enterprise – organizational self-management in the new world of work, published by Forbes. It will be available in online stores during summer 2019.

Self-Management Principles are the foundation for individual, team and organizational action. They are the rules of engagement by which all activity takes place and by which each self-managed colleague interacts with his or her peers.

Participants will discover and apply practices that enable effective application of fundamental Self-Management Principles, including but not limited to:

  1. Zero Command Authority
  2. Rings of Responsibility
  3. Gamifying Work
  4. Natural Leadership
  5. Gaining Agreement
  6. Self-Managed Peer Contracts
  7. Personal Missions and Visions
  8. Decision Rights
  9. Self-Management Competencies
  10. Peer Networks

Commitments by choice

Commitment making and commitment keeping is a critical Self-Management skill — it is the very foundation of trust in organizations. There is theory and research around the concept of commitment keeping. Commitments are affirmative speech acts. Commitments have structure. Commitments have a lifecycle. Commitments are one of the most misunderstood and dysfunctional concepts in the life of most organizations. Participants will comprehend and practice the science of commitment making while developing Self-Managed Peer Contracts.

Turning Conflict into Agreement

Conflict is a necessary part of work life. Through an instrument, participants will learn about themselves (their personal motivational value system and leadership approach and how they show up at work to others), and how their approach to others changes in situations of stress or conflict. By understanding their own work styles and the work styles of their colleagues, participants will know how to frame communications with their closest work peers for maximum effectiveness. Participants will learn and practice a method of gaining agreement for any possibly situation.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn How to Create a Highly Scalable Enterprise Free of Bureaucracy
  2. Learn How to Create Strategic Business Advantage Through Organizational Self-Management
  3. Learn How to Slash the Cost of Management, the Least Efficient Activity of Any Organization
  4. Learn How to Create Human Engagement Through Purpose and Meaning
